Alexandra House provides free, around-the-clock emergency shelter, advocacy, and support services for survivors of domestic violence. Knowing that many visitors may arrive at the site in a moment of crisis, the design had to do more than inform — it had to feel safe.

We led with empathy. Soft palettes of purples and blues set a calm, welcoming tone, while custom illustrations help visitors envision themselves in a place of safety and support. Equally important was usability: key phone numbers, contact options, and resources are easy to find, so that someone in a vulnerable moment never has to search for help.

The site is built to serve multiple audiences. Survivors can learn about the types of abuse Alexandra House addresses and explore the full range of available services. Volunteers and supporters can find ways to get involved or donate directly through an integrated giving tool. All benefit from an Events Calendar integration that makes it easy for staff to manage ongoing support groups and special events — keeping the community informed without added administrative burden.
